PAM Sleigh turned back the clock when she rubber stamped Royton and Crompton School’s participation in the Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme.
Pam is operations officer for the Greater Manchester branch of the DofE but also a former pupil at the Blackshaw Lane school.
So, it was a nostalgic return to present headteacher Neil Hutchinson with a certificate to confirm the school as a Licensed Organisation to run the scheme.
Colour Sergeant Andy Boswell, the Senior Staff Instructor, will oversee the DofE initiative alongside his role with the Combined Cadets Force.
“It’s rekindling a long-standing arrangement with the Duke of Edinburgh scheme,” explained Mr Hutchinson.
“We are highly committed to getting it up and running again and over time the whole of Year 9 will be involved trying to obtain the DofE bronze standard.
“It gives an opportunity to demonstrate character and leadership; core values we are trying to encourage among the students.”
